In this episode we focus on two different issues, with a common thread relating to freedom and the efforts of those in authority to censor, suppress and control. We begin with a brief review of the recent ‘Rescue the Republic’ rally held in Washington DC, drawing together speakers from the ‘freedom movement’ including Jordan Peterson, Robert Kennedy Jr, Russell Brand and ‘dissident doctors’ Robert Malone & Pierre Kory. We go on to discuss the increasing number of organisations trying to indoctrinate children, primarily in schools and colleges, including through the government’s PREVENT strategy. We finish by reading Ephesians 6:12 as a reminder that we face dark and spiritual forces of evil in the world, but we read on to see that God will provide us with everything we need for the battle.

In this special episode we talk with Rev Dr William Philip, minister of the Tron Church in Glasgow. We discuss the dangers of the ‘climate gospel’, the challenges of the covid era and the failings of many churches, the increasing unrest and disconnect in our nation as our society moves further away from God’s ways, and the challenge for Christians to be courageous and go against the crowd, which may be costly but is an essential part of being a disciple of Christ. We finish with hearing about William’s new book on the Psalms, ‘Heart Songs for Every Saint’.

Episode 55 - The glorious few

Saturday Jul 06, 2024

Saturday Jul 06, 2024

In this episode we review Nick Franks’ latest book ‘The Glorious Few: Redeeming Radicalisation in the Kingdom of God'. We explore the nature of ‘de-radicalised’ Christianity in the West, the ‘industrial idolatry’ in the church, why the churches closed in 2020, and what ‘redeeming radicalisation’ looks like. We think this is an important book, particularly for the UK church, and would encourage listeners to get a copy for themselves and one for their church leader! We conclude with 2 Timothy 4:8 and "Amen, Come Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20).

In this episode we consider the failings of the UK covid-19 inquiry and its postponement of the module on vaccines and therapeutics, and the response to this from a group of highly qualified experts and medics who have convened a People’s Vaccine Inquiry. We also discuss the upcoming UK election in light of a recent survey by the Evangelical Alliance which gives some interesting insight into the thinking of ‘evangelical’ Christians in the UK. We finish with the need to acknowledge reality and take encouragement from Colossians 2:6-10.

We have a look at the Christian media and the need to apply critical thinking to their output as well as that of mainstream media. We focus in on Premier Christianity and some example articles, showing the need to pursue truth and be discerning so we are not deceived. We discuss the pushback including the ‘CO2 Coalition’ and the ’No to net-zero’ campaign. We finish with a call to consider these issues from a Christian perspective, with a focus on Genesis 1:24-28 and Psalm 104.

Episode 48 - DisPutin?

Sunday Feb 11, 2024

Sunday Feb 11, 2024

In this episode we re-visit the controversy surrounding Christian leader Alistair Begg’s recent advice about attending a ‘transgender wedding’, and we take a quick look at another controversy involving Canterbury Cathedral and silent discos. We then spend some time reviewing Tucker Carlson’s now infamous interview with Vladimir Putin. This raised a number of issues including history, NATO expansion, negotiations for settlement, Russian expansionism, the war-mongering of the West, the role of the media and the importance of seeking after truth. We finish with a reading from James 3:13-18 which reminds us to seek God’s wisdom and not the ‘wisdom’ offered by the world.

About Owl & Badger

We are friends of over 20 years and we're both followers of Jesus Christ. We started this podcast in 2021 as a response to what we could see happening in our country and churches. We all have a worldview through which we see and understand the world around us. As Christians, we think it's of vital importance to observe, interpret and understand world events through a Biblical worldview. This is essentially what this podcast is about. We are not claiming to always be right, but we are seeking after truth and discernment. We hope that in some way, this will be an encouragement to you.
